open from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM during the summer.

Summer
Learning Opportunities
Everyone looks forward to
the more relaxed pace of summer. Summer is also a great
time to support skills learned through the school year or
to explore new interests.
There will be a summer
math camp offered to students entering third and fourth
grade this coming fall. The session will be held from
August 6 - August 17, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to
12:00 p.m. at Center School. This camp will focus on
hands-on math activities and projects including real-life
problems. For questions, contact. Leslie Mancuso,
Mathematics Coordinator, at 896-2300 ext. 121.
Ellington will offer a
three week Summer Reading Camp for students entering
grade 1, 2, or 3 this coming fall. The session will be
held from July 9 - July 26, Monday through Thursday, at
Center School. This program supports students who need
additional reading instruction or practice to maintain
skills over the summer. For questions, contact Robin
Kline, Language Arts Coordinator, at 896-2300 ext. 124.
Students will be selected through a lottery. The cost is
$150. There is some scholarship money available.
Transportation is not provided.
The school district will
also offer a variety of fee based enrichment programs
this summer. More information will be coming home
soon..
Manchester Community
college offers two summer programs, From July 16th to
20th, they have a technology camp. Excursions in
Learning, an enrichment camp for talented and high
achieving students, will be July 30 - August 10. There
are morning and afternoon sessions for students in grades
1 to 8 ranging from acting to nature study. Students who
have participated previously were very pleased with these
programs. Information is available in the school office

Summer
Reading
Another very important
aspect of summer learning fun is to keep reading.
Research shows that leisure reading is a very valuable
way to help students improve . It is critical for all
students to read all summer and ENJOY that reading. We
will again be participating in the Governor's Summer
Reading program. Students will receive a reading log.
Students who keep track of their reading will be
recognized in the fall. Hall Memorial Library also offers
a fun summer reading program.
Nutmeg
Readers
Each year Connecticut
students in grades four through six participate in the
Nutmeg Children's Book Award selection. Students read the
ten nominated books and select their favorite. Crystal
Lake fourth graders participate each year. Students must
read at least five of the books in order to vote for
their favorite.

graders, start reading! Books are available at school and
at Hall Library. The nominees are:
