CLS PTO Newsletter

November 2007

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month (unless otherwise indicated) at 7:00 p.m. in the CLS Media Center.  The PTO Board will meet at 6:30 p.m.  Anyone interested in attending is more than welcome.  The dates of the meetings are: December 11th, January 8th, February 12th, March 11th, April 8th, May 13th, June 10th

Can’t attend meetings?  We have many events, programs and fundraisers where you can volunteer to help.  This is a great way to take part and support the school.

Haven’t joined yet?   Membership is only $5.00 per year for a family.  Please contact any board member for information.

Michael Larkin:  Crystal Lake School’s New Principal joined the school for a meet and greet on November 13th.  The students and staff were able ask questions and Mr. Larkin did the same.  One question was Yankees or Red Sox?  The answer was not the 2007 World Series champs!  Mr. Larkin will officially

join Crystal Lake School on January 2nd.

Gift Cards:  The gift card fundraiser just ended and cards were distributed.  Thank you to all who participated.  Thank you to Colette Aldrich who coordinated this fundraiser.

Holiday Giving:  Family lists were sent home last week.  Many families, including the elderly, are in need and truly appreciate these gifts.   Students also get a sense of joy knowing they are helping.  Fourth grade students help wrap and deliver the items to the food pantry.  Please be as generous as possible during this time of need.  All items must be collected by December 11th.  If you have questions or can help out, contact Kate Maitland at 875-5156.

Fall Fundraiser:  The Fall fundraiser was a huge success again this year.  Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with orders and distribution.   Thank you to Candy Williams for coordinating this fundraiser.

Butterbraid Fundraiser:  Thank you to all who participated in this fundraiser.  There were 19 students who received a coupon for a free snack from the cafeteria for selling six or more items!!  Thanks to Sheila Gerber for coordinating this fundraiser.

Book Fair:  Mark your calendars for this years’ book fair which will be held during conferences December 4th–7th.  We need volunteers to help set up (Dec. 4th), work during fair hours (Dec. 5th–7th), and pack up (Dec. 7th).  Please contact Pam Moffitt at 871-0395 for additional information. Proceeds go towards rewards for the reading at home program, classroom books and library materials.

Cultural Arts:  “Mime Time” came to Crystal Lake School on November 9th.  Students watched a performance showing mime and then participated in a workshop to learn how the techniques are used.  The feedback was wonderful and thanks to Shannon Kent for bringing in this exciting program.  Future programs will include a National Marionette Theater performance of Peter and the Wolf, author Suzy Kline, and a hot air balloon presentation by “Up and Away”.
