Dr. Dwyer Retires

We would like to say farewell and best wishes to Dr. Joyce Dwyer who will retire this week.

Dr. Dwyer has been committed to providing the best education and has been genuinely concerned for, and dedicated to, our children.  We will never forget this.  Seldom, if ever, did Dr. Dwyer miss a meeting, a carnival, a book fair, a movie night, a dinner at McDonalds, a night of bingo, or, her favorite, a sleepover in the gymnasium.  She was there because she cared for our children.

Asked what she looks forward to the most, Dr. Dwyer had the simple plan of, “reading the morning paper before going to bed”.  On behalf of the Crystal Lake PTO, thank you Dr. Dwyer for taking the journey with our children and for the many wonderful memories you will leave behind with us.

Book Fair:  The book fair was held during conferences December 4th–7th.  Thank you to all who fulfilled the children’s wish lists and shopped during the parent teacher conferences.  We were able to purchase $2,600 worth of books for our Reading at Home Program.  Thank you to Pam Moffitt who chaired this years’ book fair and all the volunteers who helped out.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

Cultural Arts:   Future programs will include a National Marionette Theater performance of Peter and the Wolf, author Susie Kline, and a hot air balloon presentation by “Up and Away”.

Another Overwhelming Holiday Giving Program:  With the economy families have been facing presently and in the past year, it was exceptionally heartwarming to see the number of items collected once again.  Classrooms collected holiday gifts for 35 families at the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.  Each class went above and beyond to make this holiday season a very special one for so many.  Thanks to you, there are many families who will be smiling this season.  They truly appreciate the generosity and caring provided by the Crystal Lake School.  Also, thanks to Dr. Dwyer, Sheila Gerber and Donna Hodgdon for helping sort and balance the donations.  Thank you to Emma and Elizabeth Johnson who came in early (due to snowstorm) to help Dr. Dwyer wrap the presents for transport to the food pantry.
