CLS PTO Newsletter

September 2007

Welcome to CLS!!

Thanks to all who came to the first meeting held on Tuesday September 11th.  We hope to see you again and, if possible, bring another CLS parent!!  If you cannot attend meetings, you can join and volunteer for events if time allows.  Dues are $5.00 per family and membership forms are located in the magazine rack in the main entrance of the school.

PTO Meetings

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month (unless otherwise indicated) at 7:00 p.m. in the CLS Media Center.  The PTO Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. and anyone interested in coming early to join in is more than welcome.    The dates of the meetings:

October 16th, November 13th, December 11th, January 8th, February 12th, March 11th, April 8th, May 13th and June 10th

PTO has many events, programs and fundraisers where people can volunteer to help out.  This is a great way to help the school, and ultimately your children, even if you cannot attend meetings.    The PTO will have detailed information at the CLS Open House on September 20 as well as sign up sheets for all programs.

The Reading At Home Kickoff is September 27th.  This years’ theme is bowling.  The children will receive reading at home folders and participate in some fun activities.  A suggested reading time is 30 minutes per day.   Please encourage your children to read!!

Fundraisers

Fall Fundraiser is in full swing right now.  Orders should be returned on September 24th and delivery is expected before Thanksgiving.  All items ordered should be on the pink order form.  If you have any questions, contact Candy Williams 870-0084.

Upcoming Fundraisers are Butterbraids, Ice Cream Social, Gift Cards, CLS T-Shirt sale, and our annual Book Fair which will be held during conferences (December 5th – 7th).  We need volunteers for this fundraiser, setting up, working during fair hours, and packing up.  Please contact Pam Moffitt at 871-0395 for additional information.  Note:  Proceeds from the book fair supply the book rewards for the reading at home program, classroom books and library materials.

Cultural Arts

Another very important program is the Cultural Arts Program.   PTO brings wonderful educational assemblies that include well-known authors, National Theatre of the Deaf, Story Crafters, and National Marionettes, to name a few.  Our new Cultural Arts Chairperson is Shannon Kent.  If you would like to help with cultural arts or have any ideas, please contact Shannon 870-9024.

Box Tops for Education will continue with a new Chairperson.  Thanks to Stacy Beaudry for taking over Box Tops as well as the Hood Sox Tops.   Please continue to cut box tops and save your Hood Sox Tops.  Send them to school with your child.  Even Yankee fans can help with this program!  Thank you for your support.   CLS PTO received approximately $1,000 last year from these programs.
