Dear Parents,

Hello.  It has been a short, yet productive week.

In Reading we worked in guided reading groups and focused on vocabulary development, comprehension, and inferential thinking.  Next week we will start our new story called “Lost and Found”.  The kids are looking forward to it because they are already familiar with the author.

In Writing we finished learning and practicing four different ways to introduce a narrative.  The students will be using one to two of the introduction types in their own personal narratives.

In Math we have been focusing on partitioning numbers into tens and ones.  The children are experimenting with different ways to make the same number through the use of base ten blocks.

In Science we completed our investigation on using the scratch test to determine hardness in minerals.  Ask your child to share with you what he/she worked on to differentiate between minerals.

In Social Studies we continued to work with atlases to distinguish between a country and a continent.

We are moving along nicely in cursive.  We learned the lower case b and h and will be moving onto f.  The children are writing many words at this point, and are very pleased with themselves.

        Just a few notes:

1.      The book order will go out this weekend.  It will arrive in 7 to 10 school days.

2.     This past Tuesday and Thursday the teachers and parents met the two candidates being considered for principal of Crystal Lake School.  It was good to ask questions and hear what each candidate had to say.

3.     Blue work folders did not go home this week since it was a short week.  You will be getting a full load next Tuesday.  Please remember to return the folder signed by Thursday.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Johnson
