Absences:
Procedure for calling in absences:
If you know your child will be absent or late due to illness, appointments
or vacations, please notify the school nurse at 896-2323 by 9:30 am.
Fluoride:
Your student has the option of participating in the fluoride program at
school. Fluoride is done routinely on Thursday mornings in the classroom.
It consists of a one minute swish. No swallowing is involved. If you wish
to discontinue or start fluoride use for your student simply write a note
to the school nurse. For any further questions, please contact your dentist.
Some general guidelines for keeping students home due to illness:
Vomiting
Your child may return to school if, after 24 hrs, there has been no more
vomiting episodes.
Fever:
Temperature of 99.6 or greater is considered a fever. Your child should
be able to return to school if she has been fever free for 24 hrs.
Strep
Not every sore throat is a strep throat, but when your child has been
diagnosed with strep he/she may return to school after having had at least
3 doses of an antibiotic or has been on prescribed medication for 24 hrs.
However, each situation is different and more time may be needed depending
on the severity of the symptoms. If unsure, check with your childs
physician.
Pinkeye
If you suspect your child has pinkeye please keep him/her home until your
child has seen the doctor. If the doctor has diagnosed it as pinkeye,
your child may return to school after 3 doses of medication or 24 hrs.
Each case is individual and should be based on the severity of the symptoms;
some children may need to stay home for more than 24 hrs. If unsure, check
with your childs physician.
Head lice
If you suspect your child has head lice, please keep him/her home until
it has been confirmed and treated. Please notify the school nurse.
