One of Ellington High School’s Expectations for Student Learning states that all students will understand and communicate in at least one language in addition to English. The study of languages other than one’s own provides unparalleled insight into the products, practices and perspectives of different cultures, thus encouraging global thinking. Our students obtain a deeper appreciation of diverse cultures, a heightened awareness of world issues, and an intellectual maturity essential to the development of an educated mind. Our curriculum offers the study of French, Latin, and Spanish. Each student at EHS is required to take a minimum of one 1/2-year course in a world language. In most cases, the student must earn a grade of ‘C’ or better and/or have the recommendation of the teacher in order to move on to the following course. All Ellington High School students are required to take at least 1/2 year of a World Language. Ellington High School’s World Language Curricula are based on the Connecticut Frameworks and Standards for Learning. To that end, we have developed department-wide rubrics for grading students on the expectation that all EHS students are able to understand and communicate in at least one language in addition to English. These grading rubrics can be found by clicking on the links below: |
