DISTRICT GOALS WILL BE ADDRESSED:

Windermere School will continue to focus on improving student learning across the curriculum. Text to text connections in reading as well as problem solving in math have been identified as district goals and will be targeted for improvement.

Our plan includes:

  • Weekly meetings have been scheduled to establish baseline as well as benchmark standards for the grade 1-4 programs, concentrating on math and language arts.  Specific instructional strategies are being developed to improve both text connections as well as problem solving strategies in math by identifying and focusing on lesson content embedded in the curriculum.  Teachers have shared some initial assessments with their colleagues and have identified areas of both strength and weakness.  The implication for instructional change is evident and will constitute the main thrust of this initiative.  The kindergarten teachers have previously identified baseline standards and were able to collect data that will be reviewed in early November.
  • Response to Intervention (RtI) training has provided some additional strategies that promote effective instructional approaches as well as improved collaboration through assessment analysis.  This process will serve to improve the curriculum as teachers recognize and begin to drive instruction based on assessment.  This along with our Professional Development program provided teachers with increased awareness of what needed to be taught in grade 5/6 language arts open-ended response questions.
