Students participated in a career exploration lesson during English class this week titled “Identifying Skills and Interests and Related Career Pathways,” in preparation for the junior course selection process on Monday, February 23rd. Students completed a skills assessment in Schoolinks, our career and college readiness program, and identified at least two careers they are interested in. Students spent time reflecting on their own strengths, interests, values, and goals and mapped them to possible pathways. The lesson highlighted the skills necessary to investigate the training, education, salary, skills, and tasks associated with different careers. Results of the inventory as well as potential careers of interest are saved in student portals on Schoolinks. Students were also encouraged to continue to develop their resume using the template provided in Schoolinks.
School counselors reviewed the draft Program of Studies, and students completed their course selection planning document. Parents are encouraged to review student choices! Students will enter their course selections into Infinite Campus during Round Table on Monday, February 23rd. Parents will be able to view student selections in Infinite Campus as well.
Each student will meet individually with their school counselor during Quarter 3 to review and finalize course selections.

Students participated in a career exploration lesson during English class this week titled “Identifying Careers Using AI,” in preparation for the sophomore course selection process. Students completed surveys and reflective activities to identify their personality traits, strengths, values, and interests.
Using this self-assessment information, students utilized AI platforms (Perplexity and Gemini) to connect what they learned about themselves to potential career paths. The AI tools generated suggested careers, key skills needed for each role, education requirements, median salary, job outlook, and recommended high school courses to consider.
Ms. Heuitson also reviewed graduation requirements and sophomore year course expectations. Students drafted their sophomore schedules and will enter their course selections into Infinite Campus during Round Table on Monday, February 23rd.
Each student will meet individually with Ms. Heuitson during Quarter 3 to review and finalize course selections. Parents will receive a follow-up email summarizing the meeting after their student’s appointment.

Dear Families,
For over 25 years, the Ellington community and the Safe Graduation Committee have come together to provide a safe, substance-free, and fun-filled post-graduation party for the seniors at Ellington High School. The Safe Grad Committee is a non-profit organization made up of parents and volunteers who work tirelessly to raise funds that offset the cost of this important overnight event.
Research has shown that communities that offer a Safe Grad event significantly reduce the risk of alcohol and drug-related injuries on graduation night, and we are proud to be a part of this initiative.
Our primary fundraising event this year is Dave Reilly Comedy Night,, scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026. The students will appreciate your attendance at this event. This event is open to anyone 21 and over.
If you can not make the event, you can make a monetary donation, by check payable to Ad Hoc Graduation Fund mailed to: Safe Graduation PO Box 106, Ellington, CT 06029, contact the committee, or Venmo
@lcasey247.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at ellingtonsafegrad@gmail.com. See event flyer for details.
The Safe Grad event is a memorable and meaningful celebration for our graduating seniors, and your support plays a vital role in making this night a success. We truly appreciate your generosity in helping to ensure a safe and enjoyable graduation night for the class of 2026 and beyond.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
Warm regards,
Safe Graduation Committee, LLC
