A Message From Mr. Mitchell - EHS Interim Principal

Good afternoon EHS Students and Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break last week. While the countdown to the end of the year is on, we still have a lot of work to do here at EHS before the summer break!

Seniors and their families should have received a document outlining the various end-of-year events earlier this week. Additionally, there was a communication that went out regarding next weeks Mock Car Crash event for juniors and seniors. Please review these important communications and reach out with any questions.

Our annual parent/family climate survey is available for you to fill out through the Infinite Campus portal. Please use THIS tutorial if you need assistance accessing the survey. If you have continued issues or get stuck, please email EPSIT@ellingtonschools.net for additional support.

Finally, good luck to our Ignite Student Leadership Team tomorrow as they host their first annual Leadership Conference at SMSA!

Enjoy your weekend,
Jon Mitchell
EHS Interim Principal

AP Exam Information For Students and Families

Dear AP students and families,

AP Exam testing will begin in one week (May 4th-15th). It is important that students review the schedule carefully and plan accordingly.

Testing Room Attendance:
It is critical that students arrive on time and prepared with the materials they need for their exams. Testing will not be delayed for late arrivals and no one may enter the testing room once testing has begun. Please review the AP Exam Terms and Conditions prior to your testing day.

Students should bring the following items to the testing room:
CHARGED school-issued Chromebook* or personal device w/Bluebook App installed
✅ Pencil and pen with black or blue ink  ✅ Calculator (when allowed- AP Policy) ✅Snack/water (optional)

Afternoon Exams and Transportation:
Afternoon exams typically run into after school hours; students will need to arrange the late bus or another form of transportation home. *See the chart below for exams that will run into after school hours.

Absences/Late Testing:
If a student misses their testing date, there is a late testing window. To preserve the security of AP Exams, alternate versions of the exams are used for late testing. All students who participate in late testing must take these alternate exams on the scheduled late-testing dates at the scheduled times. Please note that late testing may require an additional $40 per exam late fee if the necessity for moving to late testing is not approved by College Board. More information can be found here.

Please reach out to Ms. Heutison or Mr. Anderson in guidance with any questions or concerns.

Ellington Students Win Awards On The MMXXVI National Latin Exam

In mid-March, 19 EHS Latin students joined over 150,000 others from all 50
states and several other countries in taking the 2026 National Latin Exam.
Awards are given according to the student’s score on the exam, and awards
include: cum laude, with honors; magna cum laude, with great honors;
maxima cum laude, with very great honors which comes with a silver
medal; and finally, summa cum laude, with highest honors, which comes
with a gold medal.

Congratulations to all students who participated, but especially to the
following students who received award-winning scores this year, and will be
given their awards at upcoming ceremonies. A couple of things to notice
about this year’s results: this year was our greatest percentage of high
scorers, with 42% of exam-takers earning awards, and two of those are
eighth-graders taking Latin I as part of the Early High School Experience
program.

AP Latin: Kha Dang, magna cum laude (also placed in Latin I and Latin IV)

Latin IV: Gage Jablonowski, cum laude

Latin III: Julia Drury, magna cum laude (also placed in Latin II)
Halona Pon Mohan Kumar, cum laude (also placed in Latin II)

Latin II: Jonah Mallett, cum laude
Anna Ferraro, cum laude

Latin I: Andrew Banks, magna cum laude

Lucas Pompa, cum laude

EHS To Host Voter Registration Drive!

During the last week of April (4/27-5/1), Ellington High School’s Social Studies Department—supported by Club America and our Civics and AP Government students—will host a schoolwide Voter Registration Drive.

Students who are 17 or older are eligible to register or pre-register to vote in Connecticut. Registration will be available before school and during all lunch periods, with guidance provided by the town registrar to ensure forms are completed accurately.

This nonpartisan initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to civic education and student engagement. We encourage families to talk with their students about the importance of participating in the democratic process. The newly registered voters will be eligible to vote in the upcoming budget referendum on Tuesday, May 26th. #Suit Up.Stand Up.Sign Up

Mock Car Crash Preparation for Parents

As we prepare for the Mock Car Crash on Tuesday, April 28, we encourage families to take time to talk with their students about the serious decisions highlighted by this event. To support you, we’ve included a discussion guide (linked here) with practical tips and resources to help guide these important conversations. Please take a moment to review it together.
